About Tarantula Ranch
Fear is the enemy of curiosity.
I’m Julie and I really like learning. I also love living creatures and have worked professionally with animals for many years. A growing love for spiders in particular led to the creation of Tarantula Ranch. Rural Nova Scotia is a somewhat out-of-the-way part of the world. Around here, if you have an interest in something that is not commonplace, you are on your own. It’s like a do-it-yourself paradise! You bring the curiosity and I’ll bring the Tarantulas.
I’m not an expert. I’m a Tarantula enthusiast! As I’ve learned more about arachnids, including Tarantulas, it’s become clear that this is a neglected field of research. We can all guess why – spiders are generally seen as creepy and undesirable, and there aren’t a lot of us who are interested in studying them. Investigate just a little, though, and it’s clear that arachnids are immensely fascinating and worth learning about.
Tarantulas
All Tarantulas are spiders, but not all spiders are tarantulas.
Arachnids
There are no wild Tarantulas where I live, but we often go on expeditions to find and photograph native species. There are hundreds of different kinds of spiders – I’m learning how to identify a few.
